There are many historic places and buildings in Berlin that have nothing to do with the Third Reich, which was a period of only twelve years in Berlin's 1,200-year history. Among the most beautiful are the twin cathedrals on Gendarmenmarkt, the Französischer Dom and the Deutscher Dom, masterpieces of the German Baroque period, and Schinkel's classic Konzerthaus, which sits between them. The visitor to Berlin should visit and enjoy all these wonderful places, and the hospitality of the people of Berlin, as I did.
